Nina Dragicevic for Metro Toronto | Seminar helps women 'strip' away stigmas
Former stripper conducts sexy seminar

|
Nearly 20 years ago Mary Taylor found herself on unemployment insurance and
enrolled in a five-day assessment program to guide her back into the workforce.
The counselor asked everyone in the room to share their skills with the class.
When it came to Taylor's turn, she said, “Well, I can take off my clothes.”
Now a speaker, author and instructor, Taylor will be showing other women how to
do the same during her appearance at the Canadian Women's Expo from
March 3 to 5.
A professional stripper for 21 years, Taylor tried unsuccessfully to find “a normal job”
and instead went into business for herself, launching Live Girl Productions in 1998.
Through Live Girl, Taylor teaches women how to “uncover their inner stripper.”
“Women are looking for something fun to do with other women,” she says of the
business' success. “I wanted to bring these classes to the home party and the
bridal stagette.”
She notes that many stag parties for men involve going to a strip club, but that
women are more creative and find male strip clubs less appealing. While her bridal
stagettes are popular, the classes are available for any occasion. The ultimate
goals are self-confidence, creativity and feeling comfortable with sensual expression.
Surprisingly, Taylor found a large market in married women, ages 30 to 55.
“When you're young, you think you know everything,” she says. “But the older
women get, the more we realize what we don't know, the more curious we are,
the more we want to learn about sex and sensuality.” Taylor recently held a class
in London, Ont. for eight women – lifetime friends that turned 50 together in the
same year. She says her classes are also appealing to single women.
“It's something you do for yourself,” she says. “Just knowing that you can makes all
the difference.” Taylor appears twice at the Canadian Women's Expo, held at the
International Centre, on Friday, March 3 and Sunday, March 5. She will share amusing
and informative stories on her career as a stripper and perform an instructional
“Peel and Play” presentation.
