The
full title of Taylor's book is Bedroom Games -- Stripteases,
Seductions and Other Surprises to Keep Your Partner Coming Back
For More (Three Rivers Press) and is a natural progression in the
former Canadian stripper's expanding career.
It was a dancing career that lasted for over 20 years and began
when, as a young divorced single mother, Taylor needed a way to
support herself and her child.
BAWDY, NOT TAWDRY
"I really enjoyed the dancing, the costumes and the
applause," she says. "The money was good and it was fun
in those days -- bawdy, but not tawdry." But she says that in
the 1990s, the world of stripping changed -- from the basic stage
"striptease" to the addition of other
"services" such as table and lap dancing.
Taylor decided this wasn't what she wanted, so she quit. "It
was time, I decided, to finally lead a 'normal' life."
However, the pretty brunette found a "normal" life was
hard to find. Working in various humdrum jobs, she tried to find
one that suited her abilities. But what were her
"abilities?"
It took time, but the constant queries of female friends and work
colleagues about her former life and even a session of career
counselling, made her see that, in fact, her strength was in her
knowledge of the world she'd left behind.
"Women were always asking me about the 'hidden and forbidden'
world of stripping and how to do it," she says. "They
liked the eroticism of stripping and many wanted to surprise and
excite their partners and liven up their relationships."
So she started a company named Peel and Play, and gave workshops
and home parties to teach women how to strip in a professional way
for their husbands and lovers.
"Women love it!," she says. "They get a kick out of
trying moves such as "stirring the pot," "the
g-string fling" or "boobs on Bob" (Bob is a
lifesize store dummy Taylor uses as a stand-in for a real male).
"What it does is give women self-confidence and help them
overcome their inhibitions and fears as well as teach them to be
seductive and alluring," she explains. "They also find
it fun and, they tell me later, very effective!"
Taylor, a founder of the Exotic Dancers Association of Canada and
of her own company, Live Girls Productions, followed up her
workshops with instructional CDs, videos (a new one is in the
works), a Web site www. peelandplay.com and now her first book.
It's written in the warm, chatty and straightforward way that
Taylor talks and if you think that stripping is just taking off
your clothes to music, think again. The book gives practical and
extensive instruction on how to make it all an imaginative art
that will release inhibitions, amuse and titillate any man and put
a sparkle into your eyes and, most importantly, your sex life.
And it's not just the details of how to make the basic moves that
are outlined, but also advice on everything from what to wear
(which can mean putting it together from what you already own or
taking a fun trip to an adult store) to the choice of music for a
special "themed" strip.
And if you own a pair of high-heeled red patent pumps, then you're
obviously already partway there.
